Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $328.5 million Pentagon contract for foreign military sales to Taiwan, with $157.3 million immediately obligated. The contract covers procurement and delivery of 55 Infrared Search and Track Legion Enhanced Sensor pods, processors, and containers for the Taiwan Air Force to address urgent operational requirements.

The deal, expected to be completed by June 2031, will be executed in Orlando, Florida. This award follows the Biden administration's announcement in mid-December of $11.1 billion in weapons sales to Taiwan—the largest U.S. arms package ever for the island.

The contract comes amid heightened tensions, as China conducted massive military drills around Taiwan just one day before the announcement. Taiwan maintained its emergency maritime response center to monitor Chinese naval activities. While the U.S. lacks formal diplomatic ties with Beijing, it remains Taiwan's primary international supporter and is legally bound to provide defensive capabilities to the island.
